Tentative Agreement Reached Between School Board and BEA, Strike Over
The Burlington School Board and the Burlington Education Association (BEA) have reached a tentative contract agreement after a 8-hour mediation session held Tuesday. The agreement is pending ratification by both sides.
School will resume on Wednesday in Burlington at all sites. All District programs, including after school, will also resume.
“I’m pleased to inform the Burlington community that we have reached a tentative agreement with the BEA,” said Board Chair Mark Porter. “The Board and the District have a tremendous amount of respect for our teachers, students, taxpayers and our community- which is reflected in this contract. We are glad we can move forward as a community and get back to what matters most- educating our youth.”
The mediator has instructed both parties to not disclose the specifics of the tentative agreement until ratification takes place.
“We are extremely fortunate to have dedicated and caring teachers in Burlington,” said Superintendent Yaw Obeng. “This has been a challenging time for our community. It is important that we now move forward together. We are one District and one team, and I am confident we can all heal and learn from this experience.”
The District will follow its usual Wednesday schedule tomorrow:
BHS: Block 1 begins at 8:50 AM
Early release at 1:50 PM at all elementary schools
Early release at 2:00 PM at both middle schools
