Supplemental Education Services

In March of 2011 the Vermont Department of Education identified eight BSD schools as not making AYP in one or more areas. These identified schools are: Burlington High School, Champlain Elementary, C.P. Smith Elementary, Edmunds Middle School, Hunt Middle School, Integrated Arts Academy, J.J. Flynn Elementary, and Sustainability Academy.

As a result, these schools are required to provide Supplemental Educational Services- extra academic assistance/tutoring to improve academic performance- free of charge. If you are eligible and choose to participate, you'll be able to select a program that best fits your child's needs. Letters and applications from these schools are being sent to all families during the first week of school.

Eligibility: Only children who are eligible for free and reduced-price federal meals can participate. If you have not previously applied for the free and reduced-price federal meals program, please return the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application along with the application for Supplemental Educational Services.

Limited services available: Only a limited number of spaces are available. As a result, we may not be able to enroll every child whose parent applies. We will give first priority to the lowest-achieving students. This achievement level will be based on the student's score on the fall 2010 New England Common Assessment Programs (NECAP) test.

For a detailed list of eligible providers, please visit the Vermont Department of Education website:

To apply for services please access the application link below and return the form to the school your child attends. Forms are also available at the school if you do not have access to a printer.
