On September 17th, the BHS and BTC Building Construction Oversight Committee (BCOC) updated the School Board on the status of our BHS and BTC ReEnvisioning project.
The committee has spent more than six months gathering input and consultation from BHS/BTC faculty and staff. Through that input and design process, our initial cost estimates have come in higher than what was proposed during the bonding process. This is not an unusual event in the development of such a large and complex project; in fact, it is part of a necessary process and a very common outcome.
Typical Design Process (click here to expand the flowchart seen right):
1) Tell the project team what you want and need.
2) The project team then figures out how to meet all or most of those wants and needs.
3) Produces a detailed estimate of costs to meet those wants and needs.
4) Refine the list of wants and needs and refine the design to match the budget.
The committee is in step 4 of this process. As a result, the committee remains hard at work through the budget development process to refine plans that will meet our budget requirements and design goals. It is important to note that we will not be asking voters for more money. We are committed to delivering this project within the $70 million bond voters approved in November 2018.
As we work to refine the list of wants and needs, our priorities will continue to focus on the following core areas that are included in our OPR (Owner’s Project Requirement).
- Accessibility
- Safety and Security
- Energy Efficiency
- 21st Century Learning Spaces
