What is Parent University?
The Burlington School District Parent University is an innovative educational model that promotes learning for parents of BSD students through a holistic multi-generational approach, taking families’ challenges, needs, and educational goals into account for maximum impact on student success. The program teaches parents about the American school system and expectations, as well as valuable skills and knowledge that benefit both families and children (i.e. parenting skills, budgeting, First Aid CPR certification etc.). Parent University promotes an inclusive school culture, helping participants to feel welcome and valued in their school community.
Why do we offer Parent University?
Parent University aims to help parents engage with their children and community and to enrich themselves and their children, all in an effort to help Burlington’s families thrive. Successful families mean a successful Burlington community crucial in empowering them to become a partner in their children’s education. The program is designed by Burlington School District employees and facilitated by a collaborative management team comprised of school district employees and community partners who share a common vision for our community, each bringing years of experience and expertise in serving low income and at risk populations.
