The Burlington School District is happy to be able to provide the S.O.A.R. (Summer Opportunities Academics & enRichment) Program this summer. In this program, participants will gain critical reading and math skills through five weeks of high-quality project-based academic offerings and theme-based enrichment activities, all designed to prevent summer learning loss.
The program is open to students currently in kindergarten through fifth grade, prioritizing those with low attendance and who meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Below standard in math or literacy
- Receive Title, English Learner or Special Education services
- Eligible for free or reduced school lunch
- Had significant absences from school
DATES / TIMES / LOCATION:
- July 1st – August 2nd (No S.O.A.R. on July 4th)
- Monday – Thursday, 9AM – 3PM
- JJ Flynn Elementary School
ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
- S.O.A.R. is a FREE program
- Breakfast and lunch served
- Transportation is available from designated bus pickup locations located at each elementary school
REGISTRATION:
- Registration is through PowerSchool (instructions below)
- Registration opens: Friday, February 16th, 2024
- Registration deadline: Monday, April 12th, 2024
- Completion of registration form does not guarantee enrollment in the program
Families will be notified of acceptance in mid April. A waitlist will be established for those who submit late applications or who we were unable to accept during the initial registration process.
New American families who arrive after the registration deadline should have a Multilingual Liaison ticket submitted for them by a member of their school. The Department of Multilingual Learners will then assist them, either in finding available summer programming within the S.O.A.R. EL classroom or the broader Burlington community.
For registration questions please contact Sage Janser, sjanser@bsdvt.org.
