For the eighth straight year, Burlington said “YES” to public schools on Town Meeting Day. Burlington School District’s proposed 2022-2023 budget passed with 76% of all votes cast in favor.
“This is great news for our students and staff and for the future of Burlington School District. Our District leaders and board worked incredibly hard to keep this year’s budget increase minimal, knowing that we will soon ask the community to support the construction of a new high school and technical center. We are grateful for the overwhelming support of this budget proposal which puts us in a great position to continue offering great services to our students while preparing for the future. Thank you, Burlington!”
In addition to working hard to lessen the budget’s impact on taxpayers, Flanagan noted that the proposed budget is the first to use BSD’s new Equitable Budgeting Model. “This model is a great example of schools and communities co-constructing plans to meet the needs of students. I am encouraged by the support of this budget model and am excited about making improvements as we continue to use and refine the model.” BSD’s new Equitable Budgeting Model does not raise or lower the District budget but allocates funds to schools in a more equitable way. This process includes providing each school with Recognizing Injustice and Seeking Equity (or RISE) Allocation that School Advisory Groups use to support equity initiatives in schools.
