Congratulations Niko! The Burlington High School Sophomore is a member of Scouting America Troop based out of South Burlington. Last night, the board recognized that on October 9, Niko earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Eagle Scout is the highest rank in scouting, with only about 5% of all scouts earning the Eagle rank.
To become an Eagle, before a scout turns 18 years old, they must complete six ranks, earn 21 merit badges, demonstrate leadership and a heart of service, and organize and execute a meaningful service project. Niko actually earned 35 merit badges, which made him eligible for the special recognition of Eagle Palms. He held eight different leadership positions in his troop. And for his Eagle Scout Project, Niko organized a collection of more than 500 boxes of new LEGO for UVM Children’s Hospital, a number that continues to grow because people keep donating. And he did all of this before turning 16.
Niko, this is a big accomplishment! It is not easy to earn the Eagle Scout award. The scout leaders in your troop say he exemplifies scout spirit, and we know you are a great person. Congratulations, you have made us proud!
