The Superintendent Search Committee is pleased to share that the search for a new Superintendent has entered Phase II of the process.
The first round of Community Input Forums has been completed (visit our Superintendent Search page to view community feedback). And the deadline for applications closed on February 6th, with 24 candidates from all across the country applying to be the next leader of BSD. In the coming days and weeks, application materials will be reviewed by the newly formed Volunteer Screening Committee.
The Superintendent Search Committee announced the formation of this committee in January. It distributed an application to participate through many channels, including a press release, emails and texts to parents and district staff, through multicultural liaisons, social media, news stories, and Front Porch Forum. Interested parties answered two questions:
-
- Why do you want to be on the screening committee?
- What unique perspective would you bring to the search process?
After receiving 30 applications, the Search Committee selected 11 members to join the Volunteer Screening Committee, representing a range of voices and perspectives in the district. The final makeup of the committee includes two principals, one teacher, two members of central office, one staff member, and five community members. The members of the committee are:
- Fran Brock
- Tiffany Delaney
- Estella (Shela) Jaffari
- Bonnie Johnson-Aten
- Rachel Jolly
- Nathan Lavery
- Chacha Ngunga
- Nina Oropeza
- Stephanie Phillips
- Alison Segar
- Paul Truman
With the applications in and the Screening Committee in place, the Search Committee is on track to name the next superintendent by mid-March. Upcoming dates in Phase II:
- Screening Committee meeting on 18th to review applications, view videos and put forth acceptable candidates to school board
- March 4th: Board interviews with candidates, time and location TBD
- March 5th: Community forums with finalists, time and location TBD
- Mid-March: Announcement
The Search Committee and the Board wishes to thank everyone who has participated in the process thus far, attending forums, providing input, applying to join the screening committee, and offering other forms of support along the way.
