
Registration is OPEN for BSD’s second statewide conference for Pre-K to 12 educators focused on immigrant and refugee background students. The conference will be May 16th and 17th. Want to be more involved? Check out our Call for Proposals!
With a particular emphasis on students from Afghanistan, the title of the conference is WELCOME ALL: FROM AFGHANISTAN TO ZIMBABWE.
This event is hosted by Burlington School District with a grant from the VT Office of Refugee Resettlement.
The conference is a FREE professional learning opportunity for Vermont educators, led by Vermont educators and students. The evening welcome on May 16th and the full-day conference on May 17th will be held at Champlain College. There are three separate conference activities:
(1) Friday AM-PM: Classroom/Program Visits
(2) Friday PM: Conference Welcome & Opening, Keynote Speaker, Student Panel
(3) Saturday AM-PM: Conference Keynote Speaker, Concurrent Sessions, Facilitated Discussion Groups
Here is what else you can expect:
- A panel of refugee and immigrant background students describing their experiences
- Educators from across Vermont sharing their experiences, expertise, and challenges
- Words from folks at the district level and state level
- Professional Learning Credit Hours (see below for more details)
- An opportunity to network with other educators in the field
- Light refreshments and lunch
