The PSA work originally started in the Summer Racial Justice Academy 4 in 2024. Students expressed concern about hate speech in schools and general conduct and wanted to create public messages to be shared. The work expanded thanks to the Community Schools Grant and funding from the Nellie Mae Foundation. The Office of Equity has established a PSA team for two consecutive years now, made up of middle and high schoolers. We worked with youth videographers from AALV Media and Burlington Technical Center’s Media and Digital Literacy class.
These PSAs are all written, recorded, and edited by BSD students, and their messages are earnest and powerful.
